Like others I have some computers on all of the time. I have two linux boxes and it is easy to run folding in the background and I can never tell. In fact on my Slackware machine I don't even use a GUI, so I have folding on one terminal window and I use Telnet and IRC on other telnet windows. That is about all the Slackware machine does so it can handle a little folding.
Regardless of if my systems make a difference, or I score very many points, I could possibly be doing some good and I have contributed to the team and I think it would be neat to build a Folding cluster of old Macs and Linux boxes.

This weekend ASU physicist Paul Davies celebrated the 50th anniversary of astronomer Frank Drake’s “start of the most ambitious scientific experiment in history”: the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI); (Wall Street Journal; 4/10/10). On April 8, 1960 Drake, using the 85 foot radio telescope at Green Bank, WV, became the first to listen for signals from intelligent space aliens. But it’s been a long drought. According to Davies, "After five decades of patient listening, however, all the astronomers have to show for it is an eerie silence".
SETI, not my cup of tea.
i started folding a few days after my younger (and only) sister died from something that is being studied by F@H. she made it 2 days past her 35th birthday, and left a 4 month old baby and widow (and me) behind. i've been folding ever since, and won't stop until they quit giving out work units. period.
thanks to all who fold here/there/everywhere.

Was this purchased brand new, or from the Apple Refurb Store?
And can an iPhone work without any cell phone service or sim (basically iPod with Wi-Fi)?

I couldn't take off Thursday or Friday from work last week, so I figured I'd have to start working on my phone over the weekend. I visited two local Apple stores and got on their reservation lists. After working late Monday night, I was in no shape to get just a bit of sleep and then get up and wait in line before work, but I dropped by an AT&T store on the way there just before 8 am. They were just finishing up getting the people left in line to order for shipment to their houses. I told the employee that it's the same thing available to me today from the web site, and went to work. A co-worker told me I should try calling the Seal Beach, CA store where he purchased his 3GS. I wasn't able to get a person on the phone until 9, but she told me that they had vouchers for a shipment coming via FedEx during the day sometime, and if I came by I could get one of the last few. I took a break and raced there, and was told they were out of 16gb but I could get a 32gb phone. I agreed and gave them my account info, and they gave me a receipt and told me my phone would be here today. I got a call about two hours later stating that it was in. I went back during my lunch break and purchased the phone without a problem. It was much easier than what my brother went through, which was waiting in line at an Apple store from 3:30 am until 6 pm before he got his 16gb phone. It sounds like he actually had fun in line, but I have to be happy with getting a phone so easily from a store within 5 days of release, even if it would have been a nice birthday gift to myself had I done what he did!

I had to partition my old Blueberry iMac once when I upgraded the hard drive . . .
I went from a 6 GB to a 40 GB hard drive in January of 2002 (at that time it cost me about $120!). When I popped it into my iMac, I was required to partition the drives, because there was an 8 GB capacity. I ended up with four 8 GB drives and the one around 5 GB. It was horrible. I separated my drives into OS X, OS 9, Games, Virtual PC, and Digital Video.
So, I would also recommend not to partition. It really doesn't have much of purpose anymore.

Just checked on my Verizon iPhone running iOS 4.2.8, and it IS allowing me to airplay video to my Apple TV. I don't usually airplay, as I just stream via homesharing from my Macbook Pro to my Apple TV, so I can't say if this is "new" or not. But, I can definitely Airplay video.
downloading now. This is awesome news! have you noticed any improvements in performance?

It occurs to me that I see all kinds of threads about 'hackin' or upgrading a Mac that is 8 or more years old so that it can run with the latest software.
It's interesting because these machines are still working well enough to want to do this to.
How many threads do you see about PC users wishing to do the same?
Food for thought.

Wait... They don't have QuickTime 10 yet!?!?!?
The only reason Windows users even have Quicktime in the first place is because you can't install iTunes without that crap.
In fact, it's so crappy, I don't think it even tries to take over file associations when it's installed. Apple knows they'll just be reset anyways, so Quicktime just sits there like a vestigial limb. It's an entirely wasted 32 megabytes, whereas VLC can play a million times more formats than Quicktime and is half the size.
Oh, but Quicktime looks like brushed aluminum. Great. And it can't do fullscreen unless you pay for it. Fantastic.

Is anyone using a bluetooth headset with their 4th Gen iPod Touch? Which models work?
I am looking to use it for some Ustreaming and it would be ideal if I could use the mic from a bluetooth headset to provide the audio.
It seems like most of the questions around the forums are for older generations and was surprised to find very little information on the topic.

Though i also bought Playstation Move = that's pretty much doing nothing with my Wii for company at the moment.
Yeah. PS3's Move is too much like the Wii for me. I can't seem to get excited about it. Being a former EyeToy and a current PS Eye owner, I'm also a bit skeptical since the Eye is a required Move component. The quality of the Eye is pretty bad. I'm very surprised they didn't release an updated HD Eye since it's so central to making Move work. I've had nothing but problems with it (poor low light performance, bad picture quality, etc).
Most of the game critics have lambasted the launch title Move games too (SingStar Dance, EyePet, Sports Champions, The Shoot, Tiger Woods, etc). The highest I've seen is a 7 out of 10.
At least Kinect is different from the Wii since it doesn't require a controller. Then again, most of the Kinect games are Wii knock offs (Kinect Sports=Wii Sports/Wii Sports Resort, Joy Ride = Excite Truck, Fitness games = Wii fit, etc).
The only one that looks different is Adventures. I don't know. I think I'll hold off.

RealPlayer is indeed very useful. It's the only player that runs on all 3 major platforms, and I don't have any problems with it (except that I wish the mouse would disappear when you go fullscreen, and when you close the player window, the whole app quits). I don't see why so many people dislike it, but I'm sure they've got their reasons.

why exactly did i pay $1500 to attend if they're going to make the videos available free less than a week after the event?
my thoughts on the sessions...one added bonus to attending though is the labs...getting 1 on 1 feedback, review, etc...is almost worth the price...not quite, but almost.

I'm also on the fence about ordering my imac with or without the ssd option.
(forgive my lack of computer knowledge here....): I understand in basic terms, that having the OS and Apps installed on the ssd has many advantages over hhd, such as allowing the imac to boot up the OS and apps faster.
Question:
Lets take the iPhoto app as an example . . . If iPhoto is installed onto the ssd, it should/will launch the app faster than if it was installed onto the hdd - okay, I get that.
Now, once iPhoto has opened/launched, will it operate any faster or smoother if iPhoto is installed on a ssd vs. if it was on a hdd?
