Why does the BB software require rebooting the darn thing? I tried installing without rebooting but it won't work. Can't say i didn't see this coming. I won't be rebooting until the next OS X update, guess my BB can wait till then.

I'm glad we could help. Please stay and enjoy the forums. :)I am very much so. I have a lot to learn, infact I have one immediate question:
I would like to store some of my video clips externally, I was looking at the Superdrive, is that the right choice?
I would like to play them back in HD, either on my Macbook or on the TV, what would be the recommendation?
Thanks much. :)

Amazing. Thanks for the link!
Yeah, but I imagine it would look just as cool with more efficient, more directed lighting. Plus, just think how much better our view of the stars would be.
I think there is a sad tree in my back yard....

When working on my iMac, randomly, my iMac screen goes gray (it fades from top of the screen to the bottom, locks me out and the message asks me to hold the power button down and reboot. It's a mid-2010 iMac. Any suggestions to make this stop??

Is there any site out there kind of like one of those things where you complete an offer and refer 5 people and get an ipod but insted you pay like $10 and wait until 20 other people send $10 then they ship you an ipod then it would be the next persons turn to get an ipod after like 20 people sign up?

I can't say I ever experience that problem but I'd restart the computer and if that doesn't work you may need to reinstall xcode.

Like most policies, it's there for a reason and is intended to benefit the overall membership.
There's a tradeoff among three less-than-perfect choices for a user's title when they are temporarily banned:
1. No change in title. The results: Posts by other users complaining that the user is rude, a hit-and-run troll, a scammer, or some other kind of troublemaker because they didn't reply to posts directed at them, even when they had asked for help, they didn't reply when their opinion was challenged, they didn't reply to PMs about Marketplace deals, etc.
2. "Banned" title. The results: Posts by other users complaining (or celebrating) that the user was permanently banned, because they don't know it's only temporary. Other users would also send emails and PMs and Contact forms to the administrator and moderators, because they thought a member in time-out had been permanently banned.
Note: #2 is vBulletin's default user title for a user with a temporary ban.
3. "In Time-Out". The results: Posts by other users complaining (or celebrating) that the user was temporarily banned.
#1 has the benefit of better user privacy but #1 and #2 don't do them any favors, since people end up talking about them, calling more attention to their change in status. And #1 gives people a bad impression of them for false reasons. #1 and #2 waste everyone's time and lead to misunderstandings. We switched to #3 because of these very real problems. The problems shown above for #3 occur much less frequently and aren't as serious.
The "In Time-Out" title was never intended to be a warning to other users.
#3 isn't as private as would be ideal, but neither is #1. Experience shows that other users notice when a regular user stops posting, so other users know something happened even if the user title doesn't change. #3 gives the bare minimal amount of information and we don't share the details with anyone but the timed-out user. It's a compromise that has served us well to prevent the problem outlined above.
The title of "In Time-Out" could be some other phrase but it's not clear that it would change the reactions of those who notice user titles and know what they mean. We added the "Guest" user title for cases where a user no longer has an account but has not been banned, to avoid the stigma associated with a banned or timed-out status. It too would have the same meaning no matter what phrase is used.
We'd rather not see gossip about users in time-out. If you report such posts, the moderators can remove them and this will increase user privacy, particularly because the user title will return to normal after the time-out but the posts will otherwise remain.

Hi,
A group member previously asked about which brand names for lighting equipment are good. He got his answer here:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=699040&highlight=profoto
I wanted to ask this question a bit differently. As the title to my post says: How did you "get trapped" with the lighting equipment or "choosing" your lighting equipment !!!
Many of us, don't live near a large city that offers a lot of brand names to check them out. One kind of goes by gut feeling, and/or the "research" one does prior to the purchase. And then, one just mail orders. At least, that
is what I will do.
As I am doing my research now. I wanted to say that if I were to buy any lighting equipment today, I would feel very attracted to know which brand or brand names may have been used by the following photographers. (I have heard that "to the discriminating and experienced eye - not my eye! - is quite easy to determine the brand name used just by looking at the picture" !!!)

No PDA. Steve Jobs recently said they designed one, but decided not to ship it.
Tablet, maybe. They patented a design recently (I think?). At any rate, if you do a search on the forums you're likely to find 9999999 threads on this.

Has anyone ever posted a complete listing of and startup keyboard shortcuts for Macs? (ie Apple-S for single user mode, C for CD/DVD boot, etc)
I am particularly interested in the one that gets you into the firmware- an Apple Genius showed me how to do it one time, but I forget the keys. Anyways, Anyone up to posting all they know? Thanks

I just a few hours ago set up my D-Link DI-624+ wireless router.
...snip...
So im quite impressed with D-link at the moment (i hope it lasts).
inlimbo, best of luck to you and I hope you got a good one...
elevenpower, I personally wouldn't recommend the DI-624. There are a number of very long threads on BroadbandReports about this router and the problems many people have had with it. Many of them have a problem which causes it to constantly reboot. I have one with this problem and it is very annoying.

I lined up WAY WAY WAY too early. Got to bestbuy at 3:30am.... ha! what a mistake... by 7am there were only three of us in line. by 10 am there were maybe 20 of us in line.
Bestbuy did not give out coffee, but they were very friendly, and people were in a good mood because everyone was going to get at least one... They had 15 of each kind:16gb, 32gb, and 64gb. 45 day return policy no restocking fee. I got 2 of the 16gb ones.
Michelle, if you read this, I still don't want a credit card, but I'll take some coffee!
Nice meeting ya Tommy & wife as well as Jacob....
PS YES, they still had a large number of em left when I left the store.

Sounds like it may be something as simple as the connection in the power button. If it's still under warranty, take it in to Apple. If it's not, and you feel brave, delve into it to see what's what.

A lot of their supply chain comes from Japan. And Japan is the third largest economy and makes up 6% of Apple's revenues. With the delay of the iPad their, Japan has taken a small negative hit on Apple's stock. I believe it was down about 330. However it looks like good long-term buying opportunities for Apple's stock, even if it goes down a little more in the next few days/weeks.
Im personally looking to buy into Apple stock and Qualcomm.
